Background Information According to its website, MPAC mission is to be an American Non for Profit institution which educates and shapes public opinion by serving as a trusted resource to decision makers in government media and policy institutions. MPAC is also committed to developing leaders with the purpose of enhancing the political and civic participation of American Muslims.
Their vision is to establish a vibrant Muslim American community that will enrich American society through promoting the Islamic values of mercy, justice, peace, human dignity, freedom, and equality for all. MPAC started in 1986 and has worked diligently since then to create a bright Muslim American identity and to represent the interests of Muslim Americans to decision makers in government agencies, media outlets, interfaith circles and Hollywood studios. As a community-based policy advocacy group working towards the integration of Muslims into American pluralism, MPAC strives to effect policy reforms that uphold core American values and preserve Constitutionally protected freedoms of all Americans. They have offices in Los Angeles and in Washington D.C. helping Muslims with all types of issues. There is a list of important acts over the past 24 years of service on the organization's website. Issues MPCA is a resource to government agencies such as the State Department, the Department of Justice, the Department of Homeland Security, the Treasury Department, and the FBI. The organization works with these agencies to inform them on the Muslim American point of view on important policy developments both at home and abroad. MPCA publishes policy papers, holds Capitol Hill briefings and forums to inform the policy making community, organizes Community Townhall Forums to mobilize Muslim Americans to get involved, and conducts legislative and governmental advocacy to inform the policy making process. -Government Relations: Seeks to inform and shape public opinion and policy by serving as a trusted resource to decision makers in government and policy institutions. -Hate Crime Prevention: Specializes in assisting victims of hate crimes/incidents and discrimination. -Hollywood Bureau: Serves as a bridge between the Muslim community and the entertainment industry. -Interfaith Relations: Committed to working with people of all faith backgrounds to promote our shared values of mercy, justice, mutual understanding, and helping the most vulnerable among us. -Truth Over Fear: "Truth over Fear: Countering Islamophobia" is a workshop and training session to empower local communities with crucial tools to counter Islamophobia in a proactive and constructive manner. |
